How does IPL vascular work?
Short pulses of filtered light are directed onto the area. This light energy is absorbed by the vessels. This process generates heat which causes thermal necrosis destroying the vessels and offending lesion. Eventually the vascular legion clears as the blood leaves the area. Clients often see significant results after just a few quick and easy treatments.
Will IPL treatment be effective for me?
IPL is suitable for most people except those with very dark skin or deep tans. We can treat small superficial spider veins on the face and acne rosacea.
How is the treatment carried out?
The area of skin to be treated is cleansed and then a cool gel is applied. Your practitioner will provide you with eye protection and then place the light applicator on your skin before releasing a short pulse of light. This is repeated until the entire area has been treated. A session may take as little as ten minutes or up to an hour depending on the size of the area being targeted. Once the treatment is finished the gel is removed and the treated skin is cooled.
What does IPL feel like?
No anaesthesia is required for vascular treatments at our Bristol IPL clinic, and most clients describe the discomfort felt during treatment as mild and tolerable.
What should I expect after treatment?
You may experience some skin redness and swelling around the treated area, although this usually subsides within a few hours to a few days. There can be a grey colouration or darkening of the vessel and sometimes the lesions may disappear all together in one treatment. Rarely may you experience some bruising.
How many treatments will I need?
Clients typically need between one and five sessions at an interval of four to six weeks, although the number of treatments required will depend on the type and size of the vascular area.
